Two drivers were killed just before 7 a.m. Tuesday in a three-car accident on Ga. 247 just north of the intersection of Ga. 96.
Gary Shave, 38, of Bonaire, was pronounced dead at the scene, and Devan Smith, 21, of Byron, died at Houston Medical Center shortly after the crash, Houston County Coroner Danny Galpin said.
The driver of the third vehicle was not injured, Houston County sheriff’s Capt. Ronnie Harlowe said.
Smith’s 1995 Ford truck collided with a 2003 Toyota Tacoma driven by Shave before striking a 2001 Ford Expedition, according to a news release from the Houston County Sheriff’s Office.
North and southbound lanes along the corridor were closed all morning after the crash. The sheriff’s office did not release details of how the accident happened. The accident remains under investigation.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Deputy Shane Broome at 542-2080.
